Why only English
The interface is English only. That is a published fact rather than a placeholder: a language menu offering fifteen pages that do not exist is worse than no menu, so the others are listed here as not yet available. Article language is chosen on the article itself, where a missing translation is said out loud rather than silently replaced with English.

What this means
No account is needed to read, to save or to keep a history here, and you are never asked what you believe. Reading about religion can imply a great deal about a person, so this site makes the question unanswerable rather than answering it carefully: your shelf, your trail and your reading size are in this browser’s local storage and there is no endpoint they could be sent to. The appearance is also kept in a HistorIQly cookie, so the Map, the Timeline and Dynasties open in the same one — it says light, dark or device, and nothing else.
Clearing removes the shelf, the trail, the reading choices and the note that this browser belonged to a member, and asks twice, because there is no copy anywhere else. The appearance is shared with the other sites, so it is changed above rather than here.
Some requests do leave a page, and none carries your shelf, your trail or your choices. Pictures load from Wikimedia Commons, the reader fetches its article from Wikipedia, and a search this site cannot answer is also put to Wikidata, so Wikimedia’s servers see which file, article or search they were asked for, as they would for anyone reading Wikipedia. Each page also loads HistorIQly’s account script, which asks the account server which plan this browser is signed in to; it names this site, not the page you are on.
